ODRC Shoot Reports :

Sunday 22nd January 2006 - (Whittington "A")

Well, what a day that was. For those who didn't get there, you missed not seeing anything. We held on till mid-day, as we had a few hopeful thinnings of the Fog, but even with lots of Hot Air from mush discussion and the discouragement of Negative Vibes, the fog persisted. We understand that the Clubs concerned will not be charged for the none use of the facilities.  In Short, we were "Fogged Off"

Saturday 14th January 2006  -  (Sennybridge J3a Range)

To those who did not get there, you missed a very good opportunity to Miss the target at 1000M (Approx. 1100yds)

Yes, it was a most enjoyable day, with fine weather (lots of sunshine & quite mild). However, a rather nasty variable wind kept catching us out.

Quite a few shooters had problems getting there ammo to reach this distance, mainly due to incorrect scope mounting and light-ish loads. These are 2 points to work on before the next long distance shoot.

Our thanks to the range staff for there help in making the day go well. Hope to have another shoot here soon.

Saturday 24th September 05  - (Sennybridge "X" Range)

Yet another great turnout for a good days shoot, hosted again by FCSA (UK). We were blessed with good weather, with the Range Warden providing us with an interesting layout of ETR Targets. NO major problems this time, as Landmarc & MOD seem to have got things sorted better.

This was also a Guest Day, with quite a few Non FAC persons attending, with the prospect of a few more shooter to be. Visitors from other clubs were also present, along with Geoff Hudson from Target Gun and a colleague, doing Audio Tests for hearing protection. Hope to have some interesting results.

Monday 12th September - (Sennybridge "X" Range)

What a turnout for a superb days shooting in perfect weather hosted by the Fifty Calibre Shooting Association of the UK. Got off to a rather poor start through  being messed about by the MOD etc., who seemed to have lost the RASP & Risk Assessment for the days shoot, along with wanting all Names & Car Registration of all persons attending. All this delayed tings by a couple of hours or so.

Anyway, the rest of the day went well, with all having a very enjoyable day. Our thanks to the Range Warden for producing some excellent targets for the 50 cal group tests at 1000yds

May, June, July & August shoot all went well, in spite of Landmarc messing up on which ranges clubs were firing on. It's nice to be back at Llansilin & Whittington.

Sunday 1st May - (Kingsbury "A" Range)

Another good turnout, along with good weather, made for a good days shoot. We shared with 5 Towns on "A" Range and 10th Warwicks shot on "B" Range. As usual, 300 yds. AM & 600 yds. PM. Bit of a Tail wind made things interesting.

Sunday 24th April - (Kingsbury "A" Range)

Well, we thought the last shoot was good "turn out" wise, but we had an even better attendance for this one. We shared with 3 other clubs on "A" , with a military unit on "B" , AM. The Weather was Fine, with plenty of sun and a keen head wind. Shot 300yds AM & 600yds PM, with only half the shooters.

Saturday 9th April -  (Sennybridge "F" Range)

An even better turn out than last Saturday, with FSCA members from Suffolk, London & Pete again from Switzerland. (Photo's Soon) Due to a 0800hr start of shooting by the military on the "J" Ranges, Our Range Warden could not put Targets out passed the 700m mark. Still, we had a very enjoyable day, with Several FCSA members trying out there new .50's in the form of 1x RPA & a couple of Steyr / Fortmeir Rifles.  Again the weather was Sunny, with that very tricky wind.

Saturday 2nd April -  (Sennybridge "F" Range)  (Booked as an FCSA shoot)

A very good turn out of both ODRC, FCSA & a contingent from the North. We Also had a FCSA member from Switzerland, namely Mr. Peter Reynolds, an ex. pat. who lives in the right place to enjoy Firearms. He really did enjoy shooting his .50BMG McMillan. (see Photo) (Pete is in Black with JM & Pete's Rifle is on the Left of "Fox Hole". As you will see from the photo's, the weather was sunny, but with a rather fresh & gusty wind. This caused a few problems when shooting out to 1300m etc.

Sunday 27th March  -  (Kingsbury "B")

A very poor turn out indeed. I nearly didn't make it due to bad chest etc. Shared with Cannock & West Midlands Marksmen. Cadets not on "A" as planed, so will have to pay towards Range Wardens Overtime,  The weather was rather damp, with a fresh head wind. Still, we had a good shoot.

Sunday 20th March - (Kingsbury "A"  - Changed from "B")

The day started on a bad note, due to some army unit requiring "B" range for the morning. This meant that members who came especially to shoot on "B" Range, where they could use the shooting pits, where very disappointed indeed. Anyway, we had a good turnout and shared "A" range with 2 other clubs, shooting at 300 yds AM and 500 & 600 yds PM.                                                                                                        The weather improved slightly to give a cold, dry and windy day.

Sunday 20th February - (Kingsbury "A" Range)

Yet another good shoot, with a good turn out and good weather, although some thought it was a bit chilly. We shared with  couple of lads from the South Staffs Rifle & Pistol Club in the morning, with  military unit on "B" Range. A few of our lads did a turn at 200yds at lunch time, before we all went back to 600 yds for the afternoon.

Sunday 6th February - (Kingsbury "A" Range)

Had a good days shoot. Shared with Cannock Rifle Club. with Wednesbury Marksmen & 10th Warwicks on "B" Range. All did 300yds AM & 600yds PM. Weather fine, but a bit wet under foot.

Saturday 29th January 05 : (Warcop Ranges, Cumbria.)

Well, what can one say!. A fantastic day, shooting in the company of some very Like Minded Shooters, at the invitation of the Red Rose Rifle Club. The range we where using is a Field Firing Range known as "Charlie High" and is surrounded by some of the most breath taking scenery in Cumbria. (See Photo - more to come shortly.) The weather was a bit misty for the long range stuff at first, but soon cleared to give a nice sunny day. Targets, mainly solids, went out to around 2,200yds., with some of us taking on the 3000yd target with 50BMG. Must do it again soon.

Saturday 22nd January 05

Due to the frost & thick fog, we had a late start at 100yds., progressing to 200 & 300yds as the visibility improved. After lunch it was ok for 500 & 600 yds. Had a fair turnout & all enjoyed a good shoot.

Sunday 9th January 05

Kingsbury "A" Range was a little calmer than Saturday, with an average turn out and shared with the Hereford & Worcester Rifle club. All went well & we actually finished early, just before a rather sharp Shower of rain.

Saturday 8th January 2005

A few of us ventured down to S Wales for this Invitation shoot from Brecon Rifle Club on Sennybridge "F" Range and had a very warm welcome as well as a good days shooting, despite the very strong wind which tested one's skills to the limit. They certainly had a good turn out. Thanks again Brecon, you will be most welcome at ODRC / FCSA Shoots throughout the year.

Sunday 19th December 2004  (Club Christmas Shoot)

A reasonable turn out at Kingsbury for a bit of a Fun Shoot on a Lucky Card. Many ideas being put forward as to the best way of getting the highest score, but with the card turned over to present a blank surface, all the best laid plans went out of the window. Still, every shooter had a prize.

Saturday 4th December  (Sennybridge J3a Range)

Quite a good turn out, considering the very misty conditions. Got under way around 1030 ish, when the targets came into view at 300m., where we all had a zero session. A quick dash up to the 1000m point (Approx 1100 yds) where we split into two groups, with 2 x sentry posts also manned.     (See Photo)

A change over at half time, finishing at 1600hrs., with us all putting some holes in the black, on the 300 yd centre's. However, this shoot shows once again the need for an inclined scope rail, as many scopes run out of elevation between 800 & 1000yds. (Don't forget, for long range shooting, you must zero a scope at the bottom end of the elevation turret, not half way up as most seem to be.)

Sunday 28th November  (Kingsbury "A" Range)

A rather wet day, with a fine driving rain that gets every where, but as usual, the sun came out just as we started to pack up for the day.

Shared with 3 other clubs, doing 300yds AM + a quickie at 100 for zeroing. 600yds PM.

Saturday 20th November (Sennybridge "F" Range)

Had a great day in the snow. A bit dodgy finding our white target though. Still we all just missed getting frost bite. Not enough people for a 50cal comp., but JM managed a reasonable 6" ish group after spending a long time finding the target and much help from spotters. (See Photo's)

NB : Those of you not attending of late have missed some good shoots. Is there a problem we don't know about ?., please shout up.
